Giving Roots to Grow

Pupil Premium at Reinwood Junior School

The Pupil Premium is allocated for children from low-income families who are currently known to be eligible for free school meals (FSM) in both mainstream and non-mainstream settings and children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months.

The government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for FSM and their wealthier peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.

The Pupil Premium is allocated to the school and is clearly identifiable. It is for the school to decide how the Pupil Premium, allocated per FSM pupil, is spent, since we are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for individual pupils within our responsibility.

The Department of Education has created a document - Pupil Premium - what you need to know - which expands on the purpose of the Pupil Premium and the key facts.
